Took my friend Andrew on a grand tour of the Tricouni area, a very beautiful place that warrants taking the time for exploration. We hiked in late on Monday (just under 2 hours to 2nd lake camp) and on Tuesday hiked back down to the 1st lake (the one with the island) and then followed the trail to Cypress Lake, visiting all the lakes in between. From Cypress Lake we wended our way up to Tricouni W1 (the slightly lower rounded summit) which is a fairly straightforward scree, boulder, heather, snow slog with fabulous views. We took a different route down, steep meadows and rockslides off the SSW side of the ridge that lead us to a trail back to the 1st lake and then back up to the 2nd lake camp, a 7 hour trip. Lots of bugs at the camp but we had a great time anyway. The road access will prove problematic for 2 wheel drive vehicles and even some low clearance 4x4 vehicles as the logging road is partially washed out before the 8km sign with one particular section after the 8km sign (see last photo) that is quite bad, we had trouble getting through even with a high clearance 4x4. Good luck!
