This was an awesome hike, after two weeks without hiking I was starting to get alpine withdrawal symptoms. Brunswick Mountain more than made up for the dry spell.
This hike was tough, with a pretty late start (about 2pm), my friends and I were at the mercy of the relentless summer heat and sun. The hike starts out unassumingly, rambling up along a gravel road for about half an hour, then another 10-15 minutes through a relatively flat forested area, with a few creek crossings. Then the uphill slog begins, with my hydration pack filled to its 10L capacity, this part was a bit of a doozy; especially in the midday heat.
After the initial major uphill hike through the forest, you'll exit out into a the alpine. At this point you'll have a fun scramble up some Talus before the summit. The views are superlative, you're rewarded with sights of The Lions, Harvey, Hanover, Deeks Lake, Brunwick Lake, Windsor, the Tantalus Range, Howe Sound, and a bunch more.
This was a great hike, just start early to avoid the worst of the summer heat. Bring along some bug spray, it's pointless to use it when you're hiking, you'll just sweat it off. You'll need the bug spray for the summit, the mosquitoes have a voracious appetite, and you'll likely not be in the mood to be swatting at the flying nuisance, when you should be held in a state of awe provided by the hard earned vista.
