Monday was the day after waiting for two days for the heat to come down. It was still a hot day but I didn't find it too hot. I met people who decided not to summit on Sunday because of the heat. I also met two groups and each had a dog. Both groups decided to turn back as it was too hot for the dogs when they got to the ridge. I think that I am acclimatized to the hot weather again. I also wet my head from time to time from creeks or from my water. It works really well. There is a good source of water close to the peak. I think I drunk in total 4-5L of water.

The trail conditions is ok but needs some maintenance. The boards before Alder Flats are aging and some may collapse soon. The bridge was still out but the creek was completely dry! It is a mystery how that happened. The steep section that climbs to the ridge has deteriorated a lot. I recall the new trail was in excellent conditions. It is still better than the old trail but there was significant erosion. I hope they repair it instead of building a new trail. It is also not easy to stay on the new trail and not to go to the old trail. There is new ribbons generally along the trail. It helps. But still could be confusing in some areas.

My approach to the summit was getting around the snow field and head to the col between the two notches on the Golden Ears ridge. It includes some scrambling and walking on snow but I found it as a good way. The main trail, seeing from the markers, climbs the ridge from its very start. I took it on the way back. There was heavy erosion and also some loose rocks. I actually found it harder than the way that I took up.

The whole trip took me 12 hours (10am - 10pm). The forest is thick which made me use headlamp fairly early in the evening (9pm) when it was still relatively bright outside but not in the forest.

Just after Alder Flat. It is really worth the effort to get to this point.if you don't plan to go much further than Alder Flats. Goldenears is on the right and Edge is on the left.

It didn't happen to me. I didn't see many of them. It was peaceful in a large way. There is only one place on the ridge that was muddy and there was a lots of small and big flies. I also run into big flies from time to time but other than it was good. On my way back, I literally saw none.

That is a long exposed trail for a hot summer day! Glad you completed it successfully Ahmad. How were the flies and mosquitoes on the trail?
I had my eye on Golden Ears for a while, but each picture from the past month that I saw in trip reports had at least a dozen bugs in the photoframe...
