Tricouni Peak can be enjoyed in most seasons. Late summer proves to be a markedly different experience than when I went in early spring. The approach is far muddier and there are way more talus to deal with; on the upside the meadows and their flowers are in full bloom, and the view at the top is much more assured. But what I would give to have more snow, especially on the descent, to give my knees more cushioning!
We started fairly late - arriving at trailhead at noon! - but whipped up to the 1st lake in an hour. Second and third lakes soon followed. Then the talus started and it took us just over an hour to gain the ridge. The scramble to the top was nice and easy, with secure holds. We summited just after 4 pm. The view at the top was unobstructed and far more spectacular than in March.
We hung around for about an hour, drinking in the neighbouring high peaks in windless, perfect weather. Exploring the subsummit for a bit on the way down, we meandered around Seagram Lake and the meadows, savoring the near-end of a fantastic summer of hiking!
