We had to turn back. The fresh snow was a formidable barrier that we couldn't pass through. It was a good reminder of what frozen feet meant. It would have been my hands too but thanks for Irina for lending me an extra pair.

Eaton Lake trail was in good condition as it was when I didn't it 3 months ago. The bridges were still not repaired. The first log was wet and more slippery but doable with good care. The fork to Grant was just after the broken bridge at elevation 1300m. We followed the south edge of the ridge. There was no trail defined. Some old ribbons and cairns from time to time till we got to altitude 1400m. The ribbons became abundant in most places. There might be another newer trailhead closer to the third bridge.

The trail is generally bushy before the steep section. I was at the back all the time and I got soaking wet from all the water was on the leaves. The steep slope starts at 1550m. The rocks were wet, cold, and slippery. We managed to negotiate them till we got to 1850m.

I believe this hike would be have been a pleasant and quite scenic in good weather. I think the scramble would have been also easy.

Thanks Irina for addressing the snow line.
Some coloring was noticeable from the very beginning at 420m. It was more obvious when we were at 1350. It seems to me that plants are prone for color change when it is more exposed to the sun.

First patches of fresh snow appeared around 1650 m and at 1800 m there was as much snow as on the picture

Snow!? At what elevation did you actually hit the snow? I also notice it looks like October or later in your pics (red leaves etc). was that only up high?
