We started early Sunday morning and hit the Brandywine Falls Provincial Parks parking lot in one hour and ten minutes. Walking along the train tracks for just over 1 km, we found the trail head and hiked up steadily. The gradient was demanding but never too steep.
After two hours we started on the boulder field, with a gorgeous view of Black Tusk, Garibaldi, and the surrounding peaks. At the 3-hr mark we hit the sub-alpine meadows at 1,300 m with its abundant berries. Then it was an easy hike up to Brew Lake with its gorgeous and expansive backdrop of snow-dusted peaks.
All five of us contributed to navigation and at no point were we even slightly lost - contrary to the many warnings that we had received. Perhaps in part it was due to the improved flaggings since the publications of the guide books and the various internet resources. And in no small measure it was Steve's extensive homework and GPS confirmations that facilitated the route-finding.
Brew Lake - with its varied terrains, demands of navigation, beautiful vista, and stunning destination - is definitely an underrated hike and deserves a re-inserton in "103 Hikes".
My appreciations to all for a great Sunday spent outdoors!
