The day started out a little hazy but cleared up very nicely by the time we reached Eagle Bluffs and the peak of Black Mountain. No snow at all from Horseshoe Bay until Eagle Bluffs and trail was in excellent condition, not very muddy due to recent hot and dry weather. Snow started as soon as we headed into the trees from Eagle Bluffs towards the peak, was very wet and somewhat packed but a little slippery and some post-holing. Lots of people just wearing runners or hikers but we wanted to try out our new micro-spikes and they definitely helped a bit. It was a great day for hiking, The whole trip took around 8 hours with an hour or so of breaks and picture-taking.
