Challenging, but highly rewarding hike. First off, you have to get across the Squamish River. There are companies that you can hire to take you across. We went across in a kayak, but was also saw some people going across on paddleboards (personally even kayaking felt a little sketchy). The trailhead is a little hard to find, but just keep walking up the multi-stream forested area (towards the north side) and you will eventually hit markers. The rest of the trail is very well marked. One colour going up and another coming down. There are some bypass routes. I would save those for coming down. So keep to your left hugging the creek when you come across other trails. First part is steep with some spectacular waterfalls. There are areas where you are scrambling up the hillside, some ropes and chains to help you in spots. The middle section is more relaxed and through beautiful forest with the creek running beside you. Then it gets steep again and some more amazing waterfalls until you get up to Echo Lake. Foliage gets a little more bushy around this top part, but nothing too bad. Beautiful lake with some mountains around. Great views of Squamish at certain points on the way up. On the way down it is recommended to take one of the bypass trails (one of which seems to be a newer trail which is easier and faster and has, in my opinion, the best lookout over the Squamish valley from Garibaldi to Howe Sound).
