This trail kicked my ass today! Decided it would be a good day to share this one with my son today....and a good way to celebrate our birthdays together :) It's definitely a hikers hike! Let me see....a little over 4 hours of up up and more up! Pic the grouse grind....well...I've done that one....I felt this one was a more challenging and steep grind. Lol. After a while....although the forest is beautiful and the trail is one of the more natural ones I've been on recently....the grind thing kinda gets to you. At least it did for me. It's a difficult hike. Not certain why this site has it listed as moderate in the title. I did some homework on it and it was rated difficult everywhere else. This trail starts at the viewpoint trail to the left....just off the West trail in Golden Ears Park. It's maybe a 3 min walk. Really well marked. Good on those who took the time to do so. A big thank you! :) Not certain why but someone has removed the rope used to assist your climb near the peak. This was actually my favorite part. Bring your hiking gloves! I found this a challenging bit, but I love climbing and the vines were very useful :) Be careful....the rock face is slippery here. I found near the top of the hike the ground to be very moist. Once we reached the top....wow! Breathtaking views!!! Really beautiful! We were the only 2 at the top. So peaceful. Not sure if I want to do this trek again anytime soon though...lol 4 hrs on the grind is not so much my thing...lol. Maybe snowshoeing. I do want to complete Allouette mtn. I gave this 5 stars for the spectacular views at the peak and the nature of the trail. I don't like a lot of man made bridges and what not. I prefer the rustic look. Did I mention the 3 different mtn range views....3! Truly amazing! It took 2.5 hrs down. I was surprised...it was a very steep trail but going down wasn't so bad. Again, fun using the vines going back down....a few places with loose ground but the trekking poles really came in handy and all went well. I have one gripe...girls...giving us a bad name...I must have seen at least 8 toilet areas used on the side of the trail which tp was just left in the open. Why not at least hide it under a rock or bring a ziplock bag and carry it out. It's yucky. I have never been on a hike where I seen so much of it. Anyhoo, had a wonderful hike with my son here, super workout! Very glad I could share the moment at the top with him. :)
I tried to show some examples of the trail...some are sideways...lol...sorry. forgot to take one of where the rope once was...i guess i was to caught up in the challenge...oops! :) Happy trails!
