Sep 5, 2010 As always, panoramic views from Panorama Ridge. In my view, the best views in the park are from here, especially of Black Tusk. Much quieter to hike from the Helm Creek side, at least to begin with. The route is easier than I remember (especially near the top) and easy to follow with plenty of cairns to mark the way.
We met fellow LiveTrails user Pardeep along the way, and we explored further east along Panorama Ridge for another km or so, descending about 150 m to a nice viewpoint over the Helm Glacier. From here it looks straightforward to make a circuit to rejoin the Helm Creek trail, though we didn't try it. Maybe next time.
Helm Creek was low, so rock-hopping over the numerous braids was easy. Note that there is a series of well-placed rocks to get you over the creek: we couldn't help but laugh at a group of trail runners who didn't spot the rocks and tried to leap across each stream. Maybe 1 out of a dozen got over with dry feet.
