Another nice trip off the Seymour bikeway, similar to Paton's Lookout which I did last week. As you might expect from the locale, it's a relentlessly steep trail with some minor scrambling involved. The last 100m or so of vertical elevation is covered in snow. It was the kind of slushy, late-season snow that didn't give a lot of support and made that section tricky - I was glad to have brought an ice axe here. There is a great deal of windfall on the lower slopes but nothing we couldn't skirt around. The trail is extravagantly well flagged, so even with the windfall detours it's hard to lose your way. The famous trail guide baggie is unfortunately empty and in need of restocking.
We took a leisurely 3 hours to get to the summit, where one of us discovered we had somehow lost our wallet, camera, and other valuables. After a brief swearing session we sat down and enjoyed the view anyway, a very good view at that.
The trail crosses a running stream about 2/3 of the way up, if you are concerned about water.
When we finally made it back to the bikes after the steep trip downhill, we found the valuables in question sitting on top of the bike racks. Either we left it there at the beginning or the other person on the trail (who we never saw, only footprints) found it and left it for us. Either way - phew!
