Distance done: 9.0km
Elevation done: 995m
Despite the rain, sleet, hip deep snow, lack of trail, getting chilled to the bone and random snow bombs the group put forth a nice positive vibe and made the best of probably the worst conditions I have experienced in the last year... take a GPS.. .the trail markers are hard to follow in the winter.
ROAD: The Quarry Road had a few icy patches past last Minnekhada parking area but it is plowed and in use daily due to truck traffic from the Quarry so I would think any AWD with decent tires will do.
GEAR: I would take micro-spikes since part of the trail ascends various water courses and we went straight to snowshoes above 550m? and the snow gets deep up here really quick with the fact that it is one of 3 ridges all in a line on the north side of the lower mainland that get above average precip... (Bunzten, Burke and Golden Ears all get more precip than surrounding areas on average) So take a few people to break trail.
