Tried this one a year ago but got lost on the fsr and turned around. Now got clear directions and made my way up the logging road until a stop sign for road building ahead. There were trunks and branches strewn all over the road and big machinery. So i had to park before the stop sign and walk the rest of the fsr which added about 8-9km round trip and 300 m elevation to the stats i put below (which are from the trailhead itself. Definitely need a 4x4 for the road.
At the trailhead there was patches of snow and it was foggy, snow was only at the start though until at the top and into the tree canopy then it was good all the way until less than a km from the lake, which took me some extra time doing some route finding through the snow. A bit of postholing but not too bad. Another 3 weeks and it will be all gone I guess.
This is part of an ecological reserve to protect the spotted owl. Great trail and nobody since it takes some effort to drive up and also find the trailhead. So I will put the gps for the road here.
Church mountain seems like a great future hike, from the junction, the map showed just another 1.2 km and 150 m elevation gain more. Just was not up to it with all that extra slog up the logging road. And rather wait for the snow to clear.
Good views from Windy knob of Mt Baker and Tomyhoi in the states.
