I did a Wanderung callout for this trail with low expectations of finding 4x4 drivers. how wrong I was when 5 (6) DID reply, and but we only needed 2 so picked the most rugged ones.
It isn't a common place to go but someone reported doing it recently on Club Tread so I felt this was the time to do it and check it off my 103 hikes list!
The road was rough but the few bad spots were doable by any high clearance vehicles and intelligent drivers. There is a boulder to pass, a shallow stream to cross, and some steep gravel sections. It is also worth noting there is slide alder that will scratch up a nice new truck (which should also be considered).
We hit the trail and right from the start it was clear it was overgrown. This slowed us down as did some muddy sections, but for the most part the trail was easy to follow except where you connect with a logging road, make sure you mark this spot well for your trip back of you will miss the turnoff back into the woods.
As the trail steepened, my lungs were not happy. Fraser Valley pollution perhaps? The decent views steadily increased and opened up.
There were 2 semi-scrambly bits but most hikers would have no problem at all (and we hit patches of snow too).
The peak had many of those big green phallic towers, and provided views of Hope BC itself (quite unique, and the main striking feature of this trail). The views in other directions were equally impressive.
One of my fellow hikers while posing for a picture sat on the cairn and it collapsed! she injured her tailbone, so let that be a warning to you! we signed the geocache log though not sure if we should have.
The descent was challenging for some but I enjoyed it , it wasn't all that steep feeling for me.
A few tips:
>we had a slow hiker but I still think it is longer than a 5 hour hike (we took almost 7) due to trail conditions.
>remember the road takes a while
>download the GPS co-ordinates from Club Tread (I'll post my whole path shortly)
